Mercury in Plastic

This clear polyurethane polymer contained unexpectedly high levels of mercury as a contaminant, which could be traced to one of the monomers used for making it. This was not mentioned in the MSDS sheet or label. It is possible this is a proprietary organo-mercury catalyst used for the polymerization process.

It is not obvious to the naked eye that the plastic is tainted with a toxic component.
