XRF Analysis of 14K Yellow Gold
Examples of XRF analysis of authentic 14K yellow gold alloys, a 1976 Olympic memorial coin from the Royal Canadian Mint, and a gold disc from a distributor.
The XRF quantitation software will attempt to match the %composition data with values in a grade specification table. In the first example below, the instrumental value of 57.98 ± 0.35 wt% gold falls within the alloy specifications of 58.33 ± 0.3% gold. Values for the alloy components were found to be within the limits of the given standard alloys in the grade library, hence the term “Exact Match”.
The yellow gold alloys were matched by the XRF software as corresponding to alloys UNS P00210 and UNS P00185, respectively.
