XRF Spectrometry is a powerful tool for carrying out PMI (Positive Material Identification) of metals and alloys. The instrument can identify unknowns by matching the composition found by the instrument in Analytical Mode to grade specifications in alloy libraries. The output includes the %composition, the spectrum and the best match. Although not universal, the scope is broad and includes both common and exotic alloys. The Scope and Limitations section contains details on what elements can be detected, limits of detection, and other considerations for data acquired from the Innov-X a-2000.
Our instrument uses an alloy library that has been expanded well beyond the factory standard collection and is organized by easily cross-referenced UNS id’s. For a demonstration of performance against certified reference alloys, see the link below.
