Non-destructive assay of gold, silver and PGMs
X-Ray Fluorescence spectrometry is a powerful tool for determining the composition of the precious metal alloys and the content of the corresponding precious metals. It offers a combination of speed, accuracy and breadth of information on the overall composition and can complement other testing methods.
If you are a vendor or distributor, this technology could be used to check the quality and consistency of both finished and unfinished precious metal alloys from your suppliers.
If you are a buyer or prospective seller, or are trying to assess the value of a collection or estate that includes precious metals, this technology can help with the appraisal process. Below are examples of various test outcomes:
XRF Analysis of 14K Yellow Gold
XRF Analysis of Platinum and Silver Alloys
XRF Exposes Counterfeit “14K”-Stamped Gold
XRF Exposes Counterfeit “925”-Stamped Silver
Is it gold? XRF Analysis of a Golden Powder
XRF Analysis of a 14K Gold-Filled Disc
XRF testing of small items, to determine their precious metal content is most conveniently carried out using the benchtop stand shown in the Instrumentation tab. This is portable and can be used at a place of business for assessing a lot, collection or estate.
